Chemical Peels

We offer a variety of chemical peels to help improve the color and texture of your skin. Chemical peels induce necrosis of the superficial layers of the skin revealing skin that is smoother in texture and more evenly pigmented. Chemical peels are categorized based on the depth of penetration in the skin: Superficial, Medium, and Deep.

Chemical peels can be used to treat / improve a variety of skin problems such as:

  • Rough texture

  • Hyperpigmentation (e.g. Sun Spots, Age Spots, Freckles),

  • Mild wrinkles / Fine Lines

  • Acne

  • Rosacea

  • Melasma

A wide variety of agents have been used for peels. The most commonly used include: alpha hydroxy acids (AHA), beta hydroxy acids (BHA), Jessner's solution, modified Jessner's solution and trichloroacetic acid (TCA). Our Designer Peel utilizes a special blend of these, and other agents.

Following, you will find information about some of the products we use. (Not all our products are listed in this website. It's best to call the office (313-884-0800) to see if we carry what you need)

The Glytone 3-Stage System

The GLYTONE SKIN REJUVENATION SYSTEM is the most effective AHA (alpha hydroxy acid) skin rejuvenating system available. The GLYTONE SKIN REJUVENATION SYSTEM was developed exclusively as an office-based system to provide the maximum skin rejuvenation benefits possible. Glytone products utilize pure glycolic acid, the AHA with the smallest molecule and greatest penetration. The Glytone exclusive 3-Step System is the simplest, most effective way for the patient to achieve maximum benefits. Only Glytone provides products for every patient's skin type. And Glytone's trademark STEP-UP™ system allows the patient to reach the highest levels of free acid (bioavailability) necessary for true skin rejuvenation.

GLYTONE 3-Step System - This 3-Step System - INITIAL CONSULTATION, IN-OFFICE PEELS, AT-HOME SKIN CARE REGIMEN - provides for the most comprehensive care you expect and need.

GLYTONE products for all skin types - 3 different modalities for peels allow the doctor to tailor the In-Office Peels to the patient's tolerance and expectations. At-Home products for normal, oily, dry and sensitive skin give the doctor a complete armamentarium for any patient's skin type.

GLYTONE STEP-UP™ system - by providing peel products in 5 strengths and all moisturizers and exfoliators in three different strengths, the doctor can determine when to increase the amount of AHA over time, for continual enhancement of the skin rejuvenation effects as the skin is accommodated to the acid.

An Overview of the 3-Step System

The first step begins in the office with an initial consultation with the doctor. The doctor will assess your skin type, age, associated skin conditions, known reactions to skin preparations and history of prior acid treatment. You will then be provided with full information about the program.

The second step is the In-Office Peels. This regimen consists of a series of superficial skin peels performed with various strengths of pure, non-neutralized glycolic acid which is applied for ranges of contact times. In general, you begin with a low concentration and the contact time is increased from visit to visit until the maximum achievable benefit from that strength results. Then you Step-Up™ to the next strength and begin the process again. This regimen is tailored to the patient's needs and desires, allowing for a program which can be gentle and gradual or fast and aggressive, as you choose.

The final step in this 3-step system is the At-Home Skin Care Regimen. Each patient is started on 3 products to be used daily between In-Office Peels - a cleanser, a moisturizer and an exfoliator. The daily routine is simple and effective: each morning, cleanse and moisturize; each night, cleanse and exfoliate. The vehicle and strength of products to be used are based on your Initial Consultation data. The At-Home Regimen incorporates a systematic Step-up™ system to allow you maximum skin rejuvenation as quickly as possible with minimal irritation.

  Frequently Asked Questions About Glytone®

Q. How many peels do I need?
A. This depends upon which peel program you choose. The more superficial the peel the more subtle the results will be. However, the results are additive and it usually takes at least four to six superficial peels before there is noticeable improvement in photodamage, brown spots (sun spots) and melasma. Also, to maintain the effects of the peel, it is recommeded that you follow a maintenance program and a peel schedule will be customized to your needs.

Q. Can peels be done on body parts, e.g. chest, hands and lower arms?
A. Certainly. In fact, we can be more aggressive on these less-sensitive areas of the body.

Q. Can patients with dark skin be on the program?
A. Absolutely! However, there is some increased risk of possible hyper or hypo pigmentation in darker skinned patients.

Q. Can young teenage patients be put on program, e.g. c. 12 years of age?
A.
Yes. We would recommend going with the most gradual program or stepping up cautiously.
